The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) is the not-for-profit organisation responsible for training emergency physicians and advancing emergency medicine standards across Australia and New Zealand. To support its high-stakes examination and assessment processes, ACEM partnered with Lingel Learning to enhance and support its Moodle-based exam and assessment systems.
Lingel Learning provided support and core development services for ACEM’s examination and assessment platforms. This included upgrades to the custom exam and assessment plugins for Moodle 4.4 and 4.5, ensuring continued compatibility, stability, and performance. Key components upgraded included exam management modules, question types (such as SAQ), access controls, marking screens, and statistical tools.
The assessment summary plugin and hospital sync scripts were also modernised to improve data and reporting. Additional improvements addressed interface and performance refinements, such as optimising candidate flag displays and refining navigation and marking functionality for examiners. Enhancements to the assessment summary plugin introduced new features including date validation, supervisor group enrolments, procedural checklist tracking, reflection meeting status indicators, and bulk reporting capabilities.
The project delivered a modernised, reliable, and feature-rich exam and assessment system purpose-built for ACEM’s rigorous evaluation processes. By upgrading core components and optimising user workflows, ACEM gained improved system stability, faster performance, and enhanced visibility for both candidates and supervisors. These advancements strengthened ACEM’s capacity to deliver high-stakes medical assessments efficiently and securely, reinforcing its leadership in emergency medicine education and accreditation.
